Moubray House gifted to Historic Scotland

A unique agreement has been reached to bring one of Edinburgh’s oldest houses into Historic Scotland’s care.
With its origins in the 15th century, Moubray House on the city’s Royal Mile is an important part of Scotland’s story and it tells us much about how buildings on the historic thoroughfare developed through the centuries.
From its Scottish Renaissance board-and-beam painted ceiling to its later plaster ceiling moulded with exotic fruits and flowers, the A-listed building reflects the fashions of interior design.

Fall for Scotland, says tourist agency

VisitScotland’s chairman Mike Cantlay is calling on staycationers and the tourism industry to ‘fall for Scotland’ this autumn. The move comes in response to research, from Travelsupermarket, which shows that around three million Brits delayed their holidays this year due to the Olympics.

UK drivers confident of skills

Over 75% of UK drivers are confident that they would pass their driving test first time if they had to take it again now, according to road safety organisation, GEM Motoring Assist.

Despite claims that drivers learn bad habits and become more relaxed about their driving style in the years after passing their first test, GEM’s latest poll shows that motorists would not be fazed by taking another test today, with more than 67% positive that they would pass it again.

Wallace and Gromit to hit Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Great British icons Wallace and Gromit are to be the centrepiece of the new Thrill-O-Matic family ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. The new ride will replace the Gold Mine, which closed at the end of the 2011 season.

The £5.25 million investment is due to open in 2013. The ride will last almost four minutes and will feature the best-loved characters from the dynamic duo’s adventures.

Paris motor show debut for new Toyota Auris

Toyota has confirmed that it will unveil the new Auris at the Paris motor show in September. It promises the car will deliver improved dynamics, more distinctive styling and higher equipment levels, while also being cheaper to run.

Toyota says the model reflects the company’s determination to engineer cars that are more appealing and dynamically engaging to drive, while building on its long-established reputation for quality, durability and reliability.
